Challenging the virtual assistants like Siri, Cortana and Google Now, Facebook too has decided to launch a personal assistant M through its Messenger App. This artificial intelligence powered assistant can answer your question and complete tasks like purchasing stuff, booking restaurants etc.

Today we’re beginning to test a new service called M. M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf. It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people.

Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more.

This is early in the journey to build M into an at-scale service. But it’s an exciting step towards enabling people on Messenger to get things done across a variety of things, so they can get more time to focus on what’s important in their lives.

For now, this new assistant can only take written directions on messenger. Voice command is not yet available. The unique thing about M is that its artificial intelligence is trained and supervised by real human beings. So it is not using just some data from your phone to give you the results but it is also adding human touch to it.

However, this ambitious project of Facebook is not yet open for all the users. Only a few hundred people in the San Francisco Bay Area has the access to this feature. The world wide release of M is not going to happen really soon.
