Popular Indian brand Micromax’s subsidiary YU Televentures has come up with their 3rd phone, YU Yunique. Like all other YU phones, this one also falls into the low price range with price of INR 4,999 (approx USD 75). Even a this price, this phone has lot to offer including 4G and 720p HD display. This is the first phone in this price range to offer 720p display. Now let’s find out in Micromax YU Yunique review whether these functions make it a worth buying device or not.
Design and Build quality:
Yunique looks pretty good with a design that resembles its predecessor, YU Yuphoria except the metallic rim. It has a plastic body with matte finish. With thickness of 8.9 mm, it is easy to hold. Although the entire body of phone is a fingerprint magnet. Back of the phone has a seemingly big camera with flash and loudspeaker at the bottom. Front of the phone has a 4.7 inch HD display with front camera, earpiece and couple of sensors above it. On the right side there are volume rockers and power button. The bad thing about it that the power button is in between the volume up and down buttons which makes it confusing and uncomfortable. The left side of the phone is bare. The 3.5mm audio jack is on top and USB port is on the bottom.
Display:
The 4.7 inch HD display of the phone is a big selling point. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The quality of the display is good. It creates a bright and natural looking visual and has good viewing angles. Visibility in sunlight is poor it has a light reflecting screen and also the touch occassionaly gives bad or no response.
Software and Performance:
Yunique houses a 1.2 GHz quadcore 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor with Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Unlike its predecessors it runs on an almost stock Android 5.1 Lollipop. Though you can root it to install Cynogenmod without voiding its warranty. The overall performance is below average. It isn’t a noble phone for high end gaming or heavy apps. The 1 GB RAM isn’t sufficient in this case. But since Yunique is a low budget phone, such issues are expected. Although you can play games like Candy Crush, Subway Surfer etc pretty smoothly but as time passes there will be lags.
Battery:
YU Yunique is powered by a non-removable 2000 mAh battery which clearly isn’t enough for a day use. It merely lasts 6-7 hours of moderate or high use. So we will suggest a good powerbank if you are taking your phone out for too long.
Camera:
It has a 8 MP primary camera with LED flash which does a decent job. Images taken in proper lightning conditions comes out to be pretty good with detail. Even in the low light conditions it takes acceptable images. All over it is probably the best camera unit in
Conclusion:
Pro:
- Affordable Price
- 720p Display
- Good Back Camera
Cons:
- Poor Battery
- Below Average Performance
- Poor Front Camera
You should buy this phone if you are looking for a low cost phone with not heavy requirement.
