Recently we got our hands on Chuwi Hi8 Android + Windows Tablet PC. This is the latest budget offering of the Chinese brand Chuwi which specializes in Tablet PC manufacturing. Today we are bringing you its review so let’s get started.
Design and Build quality:
The design of the tablet certainly puts it into the category of best looking tablet PCs out there. Thee metal strips around the left and right sides of the tablet gives it a premium feel and it certainly doesn’t make it look like a $89 tablet.
The thickness of the tablet is a bit on the higher side with 9.8 mm but it’s slimmer around the edges which makes it easy to hold and operate. The finishing and fitting of the tablet is neat.
On the back of the tablet you will find the 2MP primary camera and the Chuwi branding below that in the middle. On the bottom part of the back you have the loudspeakers. Coming to the right side of the tablet, it has three metallic buttons which include volume rockers and the power button. Just below that we have the microSD card slot. The left side is completely blank. On the top there are MicroUSB port and 3.5mm audio jack and on the bottom there is only a microphone port.

Display:
Chuwi Hi8 has an 8 inch WUXGA IPS MagicColor Panel screen with a 1920 x 1200 HD Retina display. The display is really bright, probably the brightest in the 8 inch tablet section. The Retina display of this tablet is sharp with 283 ppi, beating Apple Air’s 264 ppi display. The viewing angles are decent as well. The only downside is that the screen reflects light in bright conditions. Colors are vibrant and real tone. Over all the display of this tablet is really good.
Software and Performance:
The biggest strength of this tablet is that it runs both Windows as well as Android operating systems.
It runs Windows 10 and Android 4.4 KitKat.
The 32 GB boot storage works well enough to run both the operating systems. Windows works really fine and smooth on this tablet. Right from booting to opening folders, apps and browsers, Chuwi Hi8 works with good speed.

As far as the Android ROM is concerned, Hi8 runs a nearly stock version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Play Store working out of the box. It also has very few bloatwares which can be uninstalled except Chuwi App store. Android works really smooth and with no lag whatsoever. It gives 6.67 GB of free internal storage for Android but it is expandable with MicroSD card.
The phone has an Intel Z3736F quad core processor clocked at 2.16 GHz and an Intel HD Gen7 Graphics card.
There is no problem with Gaming aspect of the phone, although you might want to turn down the resolution for high end and heavy graphics games for a faster playing experience.
Switching the platform from Windows to Android and vice versa is really easy and fast. For switching from Windows to Android, you jut have to tap the Android icon and and Android will load up pretty quickly. Similarly to switch to Windows from Android, you will have to select Windows from drop down menu. The transition is smooth in both the cases.
Battery and Connectivity:
It has a 4000 mAh battery which promises a 5 hours of continuous video playback. However the bright and sharp display eats up much battery giving it about 4 hours and 30 minutes of high usages on Windows, on Android the duration crossed 5 hours.
On the connectivity front it has 3G, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and it also supports OTG.

Camera:
Chuwi Hi8 has a 2 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera. The camera unit isn’t the strength of this tablet. In bright conditions the 2MP camera takes some acceptable photos. Except that the image quality is pretty bad.
